Maschinenraumbrand auf der "Sea Wind"

Beitrag von Raoul Fiebig »

Hallo allerseits,

Fire in passenger ship’s Seawind engine room is extinguished

For yet unknown reasons, there was a fire in the engine room of the passenger ship Seawind, no passengers and crew members were harmed and the fire has been extinguished, announced AS Tallink Grupp.

No oil spills were caused by the fire and there is no danger to the environment.

At 2.25 a.m. Finnish time, there was a fire alarm from the engine room of the ship Seawind operating on Turku-Stockholm route. The incident occurred near Nyhamn lighthouse.

The crew immediately informed the nearby rescue center of Turku and started the operation for extinguishing the fire. During the incident no passengers or crew members were harmed. At 4 a.m. the fire was extinguished. There was no need for evacuating the ship, but the passengers have been transported to Mariehamn by helicopters.

At 4 a.m. the team of Mariehamn fire rescue service reached Seawind and is preparing for final check-up of the engine room. The ship will be towed to Turku harbor on Tuesday afternoon; the next departures of the ship are cancelled. In Turku harbor the ship will be unloaded and then towed to the shipyard for repair works.

The company will arrange the transportation of passengers and cargo to Stockholm or to other destinations as requested by the passengers.

There were 11 passengers and 28 crew members on board of the ship.

M/S Seawind departed Turku to Stockholm on Monday evening at 21.15.

The company in cooperation with authorities will thoroughly investigate the reasons behind the fire.

M/S Seawind is built in 1972; it takes on board 119 passengers and 1000 lane meters of cargo.
Reichlich peinlich ist, daß Tallink den Namen des eigenen Schiffs falsch schreibt. Es heißt "Sea Wind" nicht "Seawind".
