Viking Ocean Cruises: Zwei Festbestellungen bei Fincantieri

Beitrag von Raoul Fiebig »

Hallo allerseits,

Fincantieri and Viking sign a contract for the construction of two cruise ships
Viking Ocean Cruises and Fincantieri, world leader in the construction of cruise vessels, have signed a contract for the construction of two super luxury cruise ships.
Representing Viking Ocean Cruises was the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Torstein Hagen while Fincantieri was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Giuseppe Bono.

At 47,000 gross tones with 472 cabins for a total passenger capacity of 944, the two vessels are destined to serve the market of smaller super-luxury ships. Delivery is scheduled for early 2015 and early 2016.

A crucial factor in Fincantieri’s successful bid was Export Banca, the system set up by SACE, Cassa depositi e prestiti and Simest to support Italian exports which enabled Fincantieri to offer the shipowner an attractive technical, commercial and financial package.

The signing of this important agreement is proof that the Italian system is competitive and able to offer effective solutions for the export of capital goods, even in today’s turbulent financial markets.

Furthermore, Fincantieri and Viking are discussing further high profile joint projects, not only in the ocean cruise segment but also in the river cruise segment, in which Viking River Cruises is world leader.

Hallo allerseits,

FINCANTIERI AND VIKING SIGN AN AGREEMENT FOR THE COSTRUCTION OF TWO MORE CRUISE SHIPS

Viking Ocean Cruises, sister company of Viking River Cruises, the world’s leading river cruise line, and Fincantieri, world leader in cruise shipbuilding, today announced the signature of a Memorandum of Agreement for the construction of two more ocean cruise ships with an option for another two.

The new ships will be twins to those ordered earlier this year. In line with Viking’s intimate, destination-focused approach to cruising, the ships will be small by today’s standards at approximately 48,000 gross register tonnage (GRT). The related ship contracts will be completed subject to the customary closing conditions.

The Agreement, which strengthens the preferred relationship between the two companies, also includes a series of joint initiatives to the study of liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, commented on the announcement: “This additional order indicates just how strong early response has been to our ocean cruise concept which focuses on small ship destination cruising at a great value. We are very excited to have Fincantieri as a partner as we work to bring the destination back to ocean cruising.”

Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri, said: "We are very pleased to intensify our collaboration with Viking and this new agreement demonstrates our ability to compete in the market. We have done our part and we hope that the institutions responsible for supporting exports will continue to sustain those in this strategic industry for the national economy." Bono concluded: "We also hope that the unions and workers feel confident about the future by giving their utmost commitment to making our company ever more competitive. Without this determination, the excellent results achieved this year, namely acquisition of basically all the new prototype cruise ships projects in 2012, will be hard to maintain."

VIKING CRUISES ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL 2015 OCEAN MEDITERRANEAN ITINERARIES DUE TO HIGH DEMAND

“Viking Star” Will Offer Winter Cruises in the Mediterranean; 2016 Voyages Now Open for Booking

Los Angeles (October 1, 2013) – Viking Cruises (www.vikingcruises.com) today announced the full slate of 2015 Mediterranean itineraries for the new Viking Star, as well as select 2016 sailings. The move will keep Viking Star in the Mediterranean, offering additional sailings to some of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities, from Rome to Barcelona. Responding to the overwhelming demand for Viking Star’s maiden voyages in the Mediterranean offered earlier for the spring and summer of 2015, the new winter cruises will allow guests to explore the vibrant cultures and sites along the Mediterranean in the quiet season, in keeping with Viking’s promise to provide guests with a unique cruise experience. Due to the popularity of the nearly-sold out 2015 maiden voyages, select 2016 itineraries for Viking Star are now also available for booking.

“We are pleased to announce additional cruises in the Mediterranean that will allow guests to experience some of the most beautiful cities in Europe during the quiet season the way the locals do,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises. “Our Mediterranean ocean itineraries have sold at an unprecedented rate; consumers are responding enthusiastically to this attractive region and the carefully-designed itineraries that offer our guests the opportunity to explore this historically fascinating region by letting them get closer to the historical sites, people and traditions in ways they have never experienced before.”

New Mediterranean Itineraries

The overwhelming popularity of Viking Star’s maiden voyages resulted in the addition of the winter 2015 Mediterranean itineraries. By highlighting more unique locations, such as Malta, Sicily, Sardinia, and Algiers – and crafting experiences that take advantage of the post-tourist season – the new itineraries showcase the Mediterranean in a way that many travelers have never witnessed. By sailing in the winter months, Viking Star’s guests will see an entirely different Europe – quieter and more contemplative, all while soaking up the splendor of the region during this special time of year.
