PortMiami and Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that Norwegian Cruise Line's new state-of-the-art 4,000 passenger ship, Norwegian Getaway, will make Miami her year-round home port. Norwegian Getaway - which will be the largest ship ever to home port year-round in Miami - will embark on weekly cruises beginning in the spring of 2014. Miami-Dade County officials joined Norwegian Cruise Line Chief Executive Officer Kevin Sheehan today at PortMiami on board Norwegian Spirit for this announcement.

"PortMiami is pleased to be the home of the most modern and innovative ships on the seas today. Norwegian Getaway will be a great addition to our fleet," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. "We are anxious to welcome Norwegian Getaway to the Cruise Capital of the World." Norwegian Cruise Line was the first cruise brand to sail from Miami.

"Miami has been the home of this Company since our beginning in 1966. Therefore, we are so excited to bring one of our two new Breakaway-class ships here to Miami to homeport year-round," said Norwegian Cruise Line Chief Executive Officer Kevin Sheehan. "Norwegian Getaway will embrace all that the Magic City has to offer and will offer an extraordinary cruise experience to the more than 4,000 guests who will sail on her each week beginning in spring 2014."

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, joined County Commission Chairman Joe A. Martinez in welcoming this new vessel to South Florida.

"The Norwegian brand is known around the world for its Freestyle Cruising," Sosa said. "We are looking forward to bringing a new Norwegian ship to our community."

PortMiami Director Bill Johnson said, "Norwegian vessels will generate more than one million passenger moves annually through the Port once Norwegian Getaway arrives, contributing an estimated $500,000,000 each year to Florida's economy. Norwegian Getaway alone is expected to generate 450,000 passenger moves each year."

Norwegian Cruise Line has been sailing its ships from PortMiami longer than any other cruise brand, since the company's origins in 1966. Norwegian currently has three ships sailing seasonally from Miami, including Norwegian Epic, the line's largest vessel carrying more than 4,100 guests. Norwegian Sky has been sailing three and four-day itineraries to the Bahamas year-round from Miami since 2007.

Being built at Meyer Werft in Germany, Norwegian Getaway will be 144,000 gross tons and is scheduled for delivery in spring 2014. Norwegian will announce the ship's inaugural itineraries and on-sale dates later this year. Norwegian Getaway's sister ship, Norwegian Breakaway, will begin sailing from her year-round home port of New York City in May 2013. Norwegian Cruise Line war die erste Kreuzfahrtreederei, die bereits seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1966 Fahrten ab/bis PortMiami im Programm hatte. Derzeit kreuzen drei Freestyle Cruising Resorts saisonal ab/bis Miami – darunter die Norwegian Epic, das mit 4.100 Passagieren größte Schiff der Flotte. Gut, dass ich den Jungfernfahrt auf der "Breakaway" nach NYC dabei bin...

Ich denke, "Epic" wird ganzjährig in Europa stationieren oder öfters Transatlantik unterwegs sein, mal sehen.

Norwegian Breakaway will take recreation and outdoor fun to new heights when it launches in April 2013. The ship's top decks will feature the first Aqua Park at sea with five full-size water slides, including twin Free Fall slides, the first ever at sea, and a three-story sports complex that includes the largest ropes course at sea, a nine-hole miniature golf course, basketball court, rock climbing wall and more. The line also announced that the ship will feature Nickelodeon experiences for the whole family and will include a Nickelodeon themed Kids' Aqua Park.

"Norwegian Breakaway's outdoor decks will offer spectacular fun and thrills for the entire family," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian's chief executive officer. "As a sports enthusiast, I am so excited about the extraordinary recreation and the over-the-top ways to play on this incredible new ship. From the amazing Aqua Park to the thrilling ropes course with its ?plank' feature, Norwegian Breakaway has been designed to ensure that our guests will have the time of their lives."

The Aqua Park is Norwegian's biggest yet and features five multi-story water slides. Norwegian Breakaway is the first cruise ship to feature the Free Fall - two side-by-side slides where guests will stand up and have the floor drop from underneath, propelling them into a thrilling loop. Offering another first with a twist are two additional side-by-side twister slides - called The Whip -- that deliver an unforgettable adrenaline rush as they plunge guests on a spiral race to the finish line. For those who prefer a more relaxing ride, there is a family-friendly open-flume body slide. The Aqua Park also features a Kids' Aqua Park, two swimming pools, four hot tubs and the Breezeway Bar & Grill, a semi-open air eatery.

In the Kids' Aqua Park, children can cool off with colorful, whimsical and larger than life Nickelodeon characters from Bikini Bottom, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Squidward and more. The tropical area will include a kid-sized pool and slide, along with multiple water features that squirt and shower guests with delight.

The three-story sports complex will be Norwegian's largest and feature the line's first ever ropes course, the largest one at sea. The ropes course with its multi-level structure will challenge guests to more than 40 different elements, including a zip track. For a thrill like no other, guests will confront The Plank, a platform that extends eight feet over the side of the ship. Those who choose to test their courage on The Plank will be rewarded by having their photo taken after conquering this heart-pounding, yet breathtaking, feat. Kids will be challenged as well with a special ropes course just for them. In another first for the line, the nine-hole ocean-themed miniature golf course is located beneath the ropes course, offering family fun with friendly competition. A rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline and spider web, a 24-foot enclosed climbing cage complete with a spiral slide, round out the activities.

Nickelodeon Experiences
Norwegian Breakaway will be the fourth Norwegian ship to offer Nickelodeon experiences, including the all-new Pajama Jam Character Breakfast, Dora's Dance Party, where kids will have the chance to sing and dance to their favorite songs with Dora the Explorer and Team Nick; Nickelodeon Character Meet and Greets; Story Time with Dora; and Nickelodeon Arts and Crafts. Nickelodeon also hits the main stage with entertainment everyone can enjoy. In addition, Nickelodeon's Splash Mobs add an element of surprise with spontaneous, impromptu games that are exciting for the whole family with pies, slime and other surprises. Nickelodeon characters and themed activities will also be featured in Splash Academy, the ship's two-story youth area offering merriment for kids ages three to 12.

Adult Only Areas
Norwegian Breakaway will also feature adult-only outdoor enclaves. Spice H2O, located at the back of the ship on deck 16, is an adult-only escape with contemporary Asian influences offering day-time relaxation and night-time exhilaration. A bevy of sun loungers surround a huge video screen, complete with two hot tubs and a soothing dual waterfall feature, perfect for cooling off from the sun. At night, guests can dance under the stars or chill at the bar with accompanying lounge area, featuring comfortable seating while admiring the ocean views.

On deck 17, guests ages 18 and over will have the opportunity to enjoy another private retreat - Vibe Beach Club - by purchasing an access pass. Complete with ocean views, an oversized hot tub, luxurious chaise loungers and a relaxing water feature, Vibe Beach Club will be the ideal spot for adults to relax and unwind in a serene, comfortable setting while soaking up the sun. A full-service bar, water spritzers and chilled towels complete the exclusive experience.

Casual Dining
When hunger strikes, while enjoying all the outdoor activities, guests can venture to the Garden Café, on deck 15, which will offer an abundant assortment of delicious menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is Norwegian's signature action station casual restaurant where chefs cook fresh, prepared-to-order food as guests watch, featuring seafood, pizza, fruit, soups, pasta, ethnic specialties, burgers and desserts; offering extensive and varied selections.

Currently under construction at Meyer Werft, Norwegian Breakaway will arrive in her year-round homeport of New York City in early May 2013. Norwegians größter Aqua Park

Der neue Aqua Park beeindruckt mit fünf über mehrere Decks führende Wasserrutschen. Den Boden unter den Füßen verlieren – erstmalig auf See erwartet Gäste dieser Nervenkitzel gleich auf zwei Free Fall-Rutschen. Nach spannenden Augenblicken des freien Falls geht die Rutsche in eine kurvige Röhre über. Darüber hinaus stehen den Gästen zwei Twister-Rutschen – The Whip – zur Verfügung, in denen sie durch zwei spiralförmig angelegte Röhren abwärts sausen. Ruhiger geht es hingegen auf der fünften, offenen Rutsche zu, die gerade nach unten verläuft und perfekt für Familien geeignet ist. Der Aqua Park bietet zusätzlich zwei Swimmingpools, vier Whirlpools, die Breezeway Bar & Grill, ein zum Teil überdachtes Restaurant, sowie einen separaten Aqua Park für Kinder. Hier können die Kleinen mit bunten und überlebensgroßen Nickelodeon-Charakteren planschen, darunter SpongeBob Schwammkopf, Patrick, Thaddäus und viele mehr. Der tropisch gestaltete Bereich verfügt zusätzlich über einen Kinderpool mit Rutsche.

Von A wie atemberaubend bis Z wie Zip Track – der Sport-Komplex

Der über drei Decks reichende Sportkomplex wird der größte innerhalb der Norwegian Flotte sein. Unter anderem finden Gäste hier den größten Hochseilgarten auf See. Dieser bietet Abenteurern insgesamt 40 Kletterelemente in unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsstufen, darunter auch ein sogenannter Zip Track (Seilrutsche). Adrenalin pur erwartet Kletterfans an der „Planke“ (The Plank) – einer einzigartigen Plattform, die sich knapp 2,5 Meter über den Schiffsrand hinaus erstreckt. Mutige erhalten nach Bewältigung der „Planke“ ein Erinnerungsfoto an den atemberaubenden Augenblick.

Eine weitere Premiere für die Reederei wird die 9-Loch-Minigolfanlage sein, die sich unterhalb des Hochseilgartens befinden wird. Eine Kletterwand, Bungeetrampolin und das Spider Web, ein sieben Meter hoher Kletterkäfig mit Spiralrutsche, runden das Angebot des Sportkomplexes ab.

Auf Tuchfühlung mit den Nickelodeon Charakteren

Die Norwegian Breakaway wird das vierte Schiff in der Flotte der amerikanischen Reederei sein, das zusammen mit der Familienmarke Nickelodeon ein völlig neues Konzept der Familienunterhaltung auf See präsentiert. Dieses beinhaltet neben dem neuen Pyjamafrühstück mit den Charakteren unter anderem die beliebte „Dora´s Dance Party“, bei der die Kleinen zu ihren Lieblingsliedern zusammen mit Dora und dem Nickelodeon-Team singen und tanzen. Aber auch das Treffen mit anderen Charakteren wie SpongeBob und Patrick oder „Geschichtenerzählen mit Dora“ gehören zum Programm. Bei den „Nickelodeon Splash Mobs“ erwarten die kleinen Passagiere spontane und improvisierte Spiele, die schon einmal Kuchen, Schleim und andere Überraschungen bereithalten. Auch in der Splash Academy, dem zweistöckigen Kinderbereich des Schiffes, können Drei- bis Zwölfjährige ihre Lieblingscharaktere treffen und an spannenden Themen-Aktivitäten teilnehmen.

Bereiche nur für Erwachsene

Während sich die Kleinen beispielsweise in der Splash Academy austoben, können die Erwachsenen in einem separaten Bereich entspannen: Spice H20 befindet sich auf Deck 16 und ist ein nur für Erwachsene zugänglicher Bereich, gestaltet mit asiatischen Einflüssen, der tagsüber Entspannung pur bietet und abends zu einem trendigen Nachtclub wird. Tagsüber stehen den Gästen um eine große Videoleinwand platziert Sonnenliegen sowie zwei Whirlpools zur Verfügung und ein Wasserfall sorgt für Abkühlung. Nach Sonnenuntergang können Gäste hier unter freiem Himmel tanzen oder im Lounge-Bereich entspannt aufs Meer blicken.

Auf Deck 17 befindet sich der Vibe Beach Club, ein weiterer privater Rückzugsbereich für Gäste ab 18 Jahren, zu dem Eintrittskarten erworben werden können. Mit einem übergroßen Whirlpool, luxuriösen Loungeliegen und sowie Wasserelementen ist der Vibe Beach Club der ideale Ort für Erwachsene, um in ruhiger und komfortabler Umgebung zu entspannen. Eine Full-Service-Bar, Wassersprays und gekühlte Handtücher komplettieren das exklusive Erlebnis.

Garden Café

Wen all die vielfältigen Outdooraktivitäten hungrig machen, der findet auf Deck 15 das Garden Café, das morgens, mittags und abends eine große Auswahl an Speisen anbietet. Charakteristisch für Norwegian sind die einzelnen Show Cooking Stationen, an denen die Köche neben Meeresfrüchten unter anderem auch Pizza, Pasta, Suppen, Burger und Desserts frisch für die Gäste zubereiten.

Nach Fertigstellung im April 2013 und im Anschluss an ihre erste Sommersaison, die das neue Freestyle Cruising Resort auf 7-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten zu den Bermudas führen wird, wird die Norwegian Breakaway zwischen dem 13. Oktober 2013 und dem 27. April 2014 von ihrem Heimathafen New York aus zu 25 7-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten in Richtung Bahamas und Florida aufbrechen. Am 5. und 19. nun gibt jetzt ein beinah vollständigen Deckplan von Norwegian Breakaway.
Interessant kann man beobachten, dass in Deck 8 und 9 ganz vorn die überdimensionalen Balkon geben wird...
und mein Eindruck sagt mir über Deck 15: Swimmingpool und Garden Cafe sind für 4.000 Leute nicht großzügig genug.

Erster Block für Norwegian Breakaway
Montage des ersten Schiffes der Breakaway-Klasse für Norwegian Cruise Line beginnt

Papenburg, 8. Mai 2012 - Auf der Papenburger Meyer Werft wurde am letzten Freitag, d. 4. Mai 2012 der erste von 73 Blöcken des 144.000 BRZ großen Kreuzfahrtschiffes in das überdachte Baudock II gehoben. Im Dock legte Kevin Sheehan, Vorstandschef von Norwegian Cruise Line den Glückscent auf die Pallungen bevor der 800-Tonnen-Kran den Block des neuen Schiffes mit der Baunummer S.678 absetzte.

Der erste Block des neuen Schiffes Norwegian Breakaway hat ein Gewicht von mehr als 350 Tonnen und mit diesem Block beginnt der Bau im Baudock II der Meyer Werft.

Norwegian Breakaway, die im Frühjahr 2013 abgeliefert wird, ist das erste von zwei Schiffen, die für die Reederei Norwegian Cruise Line (Miami/USA) bis Anfang 2014 gebaut werden.

Das Schiff bietet Platz für 4000 Passagiere, die von über 1500 Besatzungsmitgliedern betreut werden.

Während einer offiziellen Zeremonie wurde der erste von insgesamt 73 Blöcken der Norwegian Breakaway in das überdachte Baudock der Werft gehoben. Nach Fertigstellung im April 2013 und im Anschluss an ihre Atlantiküberquerung von Southampton nach New York sowie die erste Sommersaison, die das neue Freestyle Cruising Resort auf 7-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten zu den Bermudas führen wird, wird die Norwegian Breakaway zwischen dem 13. Brennstart für die Norwegian Getaway

Mit dem Brennstart an der ersten Stahlplatte begann in der Meyer Werft in Papenburg der erste Bauabschnitt für die Norwegian Getaway, dem zweiten Neubau der Freestyle Cruising Flotte von Norwegian Cruise Line.

Eine Managementdelegation der Reederei sowie der Meyer Werft wurde Zeuge, als der Plasmabrenner die Stahlplatte anschnitt. Diese wird Teil des Blocks 40 des neuen Schiffs.

The restaurant, Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian, is envisioned as a luxury seafood dining experience, utilizing all of the ingredients and techniques that Zakarian would employ in a land-based establishment. In addition to the dining room that will focus on elegant modern presentations, Zakarian will have The Raw Bar, an adjacent bar highlighting crustaceans and wines by the glass; and Ocean Blue on The Waterfront, a more casual dining option serving fun and easy fare. With an eye for detail, Zakarian will orchestrate not only the menus, but every aspect of his dining areas, from the uniforms to the glassware. On select sailings, Zakarian will also host meet-and-greets with Norwegian Breakaway guests, along with in-person cooking demonstrations and intimate cooking experiences for smaller groups.

ROCK OF AGES is one of the longest running shows in Broadway history and offers Broadway's best party. The New York Times has called the show, "Absurdly enjoyable! About as guilty as pleasures get!" The classic rock love story of the decade features such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs such as "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "I Wanna Know What Love Is," "Here I Go Again," "Don't Stop Believin," and more. Beginning with, and maintaining all the wonderful traditions and the social history of the Ballroom dance art form, BURN THE FLOOR is a groundbreaking show, serving as a melting pot of styles, energy and excitement for today's generation of dancers. It is Ballroom "supercharged."

During the course of the show, the dancers perform all the Ballroom and Latin styles, including The Waltz, Cha Cha, Samba, Salsa, Rumba, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Mambo, Tango, Swing, Jive, Lindy Hop, Viennese Waltz, and Paso Doble. Angrenzend an das Restaurant, das auf elegant-moderne Präsentation setzt, befindet sich die auch von Zakarian geführte „The Raw Bar“, in der verschiedene Krustentier-Variationen bei einem Glas Wein serviert werden. Für alle Genießer, die es eher leger mögen, bietet der Starkoch im „Ocean Blue on The Waterfront“ ein Restaurant mit leichter und origineller Küche. Mit Liebe zum Detail wird Zakarian nicht nur die Menüs seiner Restaurants an Bord kreieren, sondern auch alle weiteren Einzelheiten gestalten – von den Gläsern bis hin zur Kleidung des Personals.

Auf ausgewählten Kreuzfahrten haben Gäste der Norwegian Breakaway die Gelegenheit, den Starkoch bei einem „Meet and Greet“ persönlich kennen zu lernen, sich von den Kochkünsten des Profis inspirieren zu lassen oder in einer kleinen Gruppe mit Zakarian zusammen den Kochlöffel zu schwingen.

Zakarians Geschmack und Leidenschaft für die erlesene Küche haben seine über 25-jährige Karriere geprägt. Der Chefkoch, der in seiner Laufbahn in den Top-Küchen der USA arbeitete, führt derzeit zwei Szene-Restaurants in New York City – „The Lambs Club” und „The National” – sowie ein weiteres in Atlantic City – „The Water Club at Borgata” – und ist Autor des Kochbuchs „Geoffrey Zakarian´s Town/Country: 150 Recipes for Life Around the Table“.

Nach Fertigstellung im April 2013 und im Anschluss an ihre erste Sommersaison, die das neue Freestyle Cruising Resort ab New York auf 7-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten zu den Bermudas führt, wird die Norwegian Breakaway zwischen dem 13. Oktober 2013 und dem 27. April 2014 von ihrem Heimathafen New York aus zu 25 7-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten in Richtung Bahamas und Florida aufbrechen. Am 5. und 19. Januar 2014 entdecken Reisende auf dem Neubau zudem während zwei 12-Nächte-Touren die südliche Karibik.

so wie sie jetzt gebaut wird, wird sie ja vorwärts ausgedockt und nicht mit dem Heck. Ist dort im werftbecken genug platz um sie dann zu drehen, damit sie mit dem Heck die ems runter kann? Oder wird das Heck bald ausgedockt um dan wieder ins dock zu lassen, sodass sie später denn rückwärts rauskann?

Und gibt es schon die Bemalung für die Breakaway?

Größere schiffe passen dort nicht rein da die brücke im weg ist
