gute Nachrichten für die Meyer Turku Werft: Das Unternehmen hat mit der estnischen Fährreederei Tallink (u.a. auch Mutter von Silja Line) eine Absichtserklärung über den Bau einer mit Flüssiggas (LNG) angetriebenen Schnellfähre von immerhin 49.000 BRZ unterzeichnet. Das Schiff könnte Anfang 2017 abgeliefert werden.

Tallink and Meyer Turku signed a Letter of Intent for a New Generation LNG powered Fast Ferry
AS Tallink Grupp and Meyer Turku Oy signed a Letter of Intent for the construction of an environmentally friendly car-passenger ferry for Tallinn-Helsinki route shuttle operations. The ship will cost around 230 million euros and will be built at Turku shipyard for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The project will provide approximately 2000 man-years employment for the shipyard.
The new ferry will be about 212 metres in length with a gross tonnage of 49 000. The ship will operate on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn and she is planned to carry 2800 passengers.
The ship will bring significant improvement in energy efficiency which is achieved by applying numerous innovations and new technical solutions. Green values, reduction of all emissions, minimizing the amount of waste and increasing recycling utilization, have been very carefully taken into account in the design of the ferry. The ship uses LNG as fuel and she complies with the new and stricter emission regulations for the ECA areas including the Baltic Sea.
Management Board Member of AS Tallink Grupp, Janek Stalmeister said that with the new ferry Tallink aims for an upgrade of the Tallinn-Helsinki route ferry service. “As the market leader and a long time operator on the route we have a good understanding of customer expectations and know what needs improvement. I am confident that the world-class experience of Meyer Turku will be once again a valuable asset for us to deliver a high quality new ferry, which will strengthen our competitive advantages.“, added he.
“A series of six ferries between years 2002-2009 has been delivered to Tallink and this ship will be the 7th newbuilding for the same shipowner. I´m very happy that Meyer Turku will continue the excellent and trusting cooperation with Tallink. This new ferry prototype gives us an excellent opportunity to apply improved design & building methods. Over the next few months Tallink Grupp and Meyer Turku will work on the final shipbuilding contract and financing.

The start of production of Tallink's new generation LNG powered fast ferry for the Tallinn-Helsinki route was celebrated on the 4th of August 2015 at Meyer Turku shipyard.
The new ferry will be approximately 212 metres in length with a gross tonnage of 49 000. The ship will operate on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn and she is designed for carrying 2800 passengers. The service speed is 27 knots. The ship will be delivered from Meyer Turku in the beginning of 2017. The project gives approximately 2000 person-years of employment for the shipyard and the supplier network.
The new environmentally friendly ship uses LNG as fuel and she will comply with the new and stricter emission regulations for the ECA areas including the Baltic Sea. The highly innovative hull form minimizes the hydrodynamic flow resistance, which together with other innovative solutions will bring significant improvement in energy efficiency. Efficient and fast cargo turnaround in ports has been taken into account in the design of the new generation fast ferry.
Janek Stalmeister, the CEO of AS Tallink Grupp, said that the new shuttle vessel will pave the way for the next era of fast ferry service on the Tallinn-Helsinki route. “The environmental performance and many innovative solutions in the technical and service areas will be benchmarks for the market and also our shuttle service in general“, added Stalmeister.
“With the new Tallink fast ferry we are taking the next step in the technical development of the LNG ferries – all tailored to the specific needs of our customer. For the Turku yard, this order boosts our production volume in 2016 by 30% above the 2015 level”, states Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku Oy.

Interessant, dass sie gar keine Rettungsboote hat...
Braucht sie das auf der kurzen Distanz zwischen Helsinki und Tallinn nicht? Oder reichen die kleinen Schlauchboote, und Rettungsinseln?
auf der Kurzstrecke (near-coastal voyage) sind keine festen Rettungsboote erforderlich. Der Großteil der Passagiere und Besatzungsmitglieder verteilt sich auf (wenn ich mich nicht irre) drei Marine Evacuation Systems pro Seite.
